    I'm probably going to have to do this with a cat I recently adopted from a shelter. we don't know much about him besides he's about 7 years old, and that his former owner returned him after 7 years because of illness they were dealing with. I know it hasn't even hit the month mark yet but i don't think he was regularly picked up or has had his nails trimmed at home, as they are quite long and he doesn't really want me touching them or picking him up in general. i haven't had to deal with this as the other cats I've had in my life were either already used to being handled or we got them young enough for us to get them used to it. i know how to trim his claws, he just will not let me. he does not seem to be aggressive about it, as when I pet him he pushes his head against my hand and moves his head toward my hands whenever i try to just gently hold his paws, and even follows me all around the house when I'm doing something just meowing, and even jumps up onto chairs or tables so he's at petting level, he is apparently comfortable enough with me to where he rolls onto his back and shows me his belly, but lets out a small hiss if I try to gently pick him up. i don't know what happened at his old home for him to behave this way, but he is a very sweet cat otherwise. i just don't want his nails to get so long that they start to hurt him. I'm pretty sure he has a small scab on the side of his head/neck from when he itches himself with his back feet claws which are pretty sharp. sorry about writing this novel yall, I just wanted to get this out somewhere.

    I have two cats. Sweety, a 13-year-old female and a Sparky, 3-year male. Sparky keeps intimidating and harassing Sweety by chasing after her in most cases when he sees her. No aggression looks to be involved. Any ideas how to train Sparky not to intimidate and harass Sweety?

    Hi I have a question, I successfully trained a cat to bunt/headbutt on command in the past but he was a foster, and a bit of a smoochy boi anyway. Now I have a new kitten and she is a different temperament but I still want to train her to head butt/rub her face on mine. We have laid some foundations, she will sit on command and come when her name is called and follow directions to a specific spot I’m pointing at, and today we learnt “kiss” which was her licking wet food off my nose on command. We’re using a clicker but not a stick. What tips do you have to get her from licking my nose to face bunting/head butting my face? Anything besides having her in a good mood? She is a bit hyperactive, sensitive and easily distracted and the cat that I taught to do this before did lots of bunting I just had to redirect it to my face. I really want a cat that bunts my face, please any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

    I’m confused, my cat has dry food out all day but barely touches it because he yearns for wet food which I feed him once a day. I guess I’ll try scheduling the dry food too, but shit you think I’m made of money?? This is kinda condescending 😢

    I had just started winging training my two cats with simultaneous ping-pong cat games, so this video is very helpful! I was worried they'd get confused by the clicker noise if it was being paired with one cat's actions and not the others. I tried pairing their names when I clicked to see if they could learn the difference, but it's difficult to know if it's working or my own confirmation bias 😅

    Thanks for the great tutorial, my two 13 year old girls are progressing slowly but surely in their training! * I am wondering what tracker you use, I have a Pixel and am having a hard time finding a tracker for them* The large harness is a little snug on my big girl but it still fits her. They still have a few weeks (at least) so I have time to research the tracker. I'm a traveling medical tech and take my cats with me on my assignments and think they will love to have back yard harness excursions! I think they are too shy for street walking but going outside would be such a joy for them...cat TV gets old after a while😁

    I have a 3 year old Bengal-Maine Coon cross. He's been shoulder training me since I picked him up (I've never encouraged it, he's just always assumed I'm a living cat tree) . Usually he makes eye-contact before shoulder leaping (I'm 6 ft tall, and he'll make it directly from the floor), but not always. But he's working on me, and I'm getting better...

    What do you do if there is an incorrect response? I'm a behavior analyst, but I work with Autistic children. We have a term at work called the "informational no" where we say something along the lines of, "Not quite right, try again," and then we "reset the situation" and try again, sometimes with a prompt. I wouldn't prompt my cat, but should you use some kind of informational no, or is that confusing?

    • @CatSchool
      @CatSchool 29 дней назад

      When a cat makes a mistake, the goal is to change the environment to reduce any further incorrect responses since that can be frustrating for cats and they may walk away from training.

    My cat isn't food motivated at all - we can barely get him to eat regular food let alone treats. (He's turned his nose up at pretty much everything available in my country.) I'm not sure how to train him since what he enjoys the most is playing endlessly and I get the feeling he'll see the end of play as a punishment rather than the play itself as a reward...
